On October 4, the petrol rate had touched a record high of Rs 91.34 in Mumbai and Rs 84 per litre in Delhi. Diesel rates on that day had peaked to a record high of Rs 80.10 in Mumbai and Rs 75.45 a litre in Delhi.

International oil prices falling to USD 60 per barrel, selling rates of fuel may control easily in the next few days. The retail selling rates of fuel are dependent on the international prices of benchmark petrol and diesel, the rupee-US dollar exchange rate. This is because a large proportion of the country’s requirement is seen through imports.
