VISHAKAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam city police on Friday sought permission from the court to permit them to start criminal action against a 32-year old woman, for allegedly filing a fake chain-snatching complaint.
The police found that she came up with a fictitious story, in order to escape scolding from family members, after she mortgaged her gold chain.
According to police, L. Kanakamahalakshmi, a resident of Arilova area, approached the Dwaraka Police on June 13, stating that while she was walking in the RTC Complex- Sampath Vinayaka temple stretch, 2 unidentified miscreants, who came on a bike snatched away her gold chain and fled from the area. Upon registering complaint, the police sent alert to all police stations and formed special teams to nab the culprits. However, after checking the CCTV cameras at the reported spot, the police found that no such incident has occurred.
In further investigation, the woman revealed that she had mortgaged the gold with a finance company at Asilmetta. Ms. Kanakamahalakshmi confessed that she anticipated rebuke from family members, if she informs that gold was mortgaged. In order to escape from the situation, she cooked up a fake chain- snatching story.
