Coimbatore: On Monday unknown people broke open a house at Balaji Nagar in Malumichampatti and burgled 34.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments.
According to police, K Duraisamy, 52, and his wife Shanthi were living in the house of the city. Duraisamy works at Ellam fabric unit at Malumichampatti and Shanthi is a government school teacher at Vadapudur.
The police said that Duraisamy left for work when his wife returned home, she found that the lock of the front door was broken on Monday.
She reached inside the house and found gold ornaments, including two gold chains totalling about seven sovereigns, gold bangles of eight sovereigns and a necklace of three sovereigns, as well as a diamond ring were missing. Then, she informed the Chettipalayam police.
The police reached the spot and conducted an investigation. A case has been registered and formed a special team to nab the thieves.
