An unknown duo burgled 17 sovereigns of gold jewels and 2.5 kilograms of silver articles from a woman after brandishing a knife at Thirumandurai in the district and sped away in the car owned by her on Sunday night.
The offenders uncontrolled the stolen car along the national highway after travelling in it for about 20 kilometres. The police managed to recover the stolen car which was found uncontrolled near Veppur.
The woman R. Stella, 49, a Junior Assistant in the Perambalur Government Higher Secondary School was alone in her house when the duo hit. The police said two men came to the house of Ms. Stella asking for her son. The woman allowed them to enter the house located in Nova Nagar.
The duo immediately closed the door and threatened Stella to part with her gold jewellery by brandishing a knife.
After taking fled with gold jewellery from her possession and those kept in the house besides silver articles, the duo took the keys of the car. They then locked the door from the outside and sped away in the car along with the loot.
The woman remained silent out of fear and the incident came to light only after her son returned home only to find the door locked from outside.
Acting on evidence, police examined the scene of the crime and conducted investigations with Stella- the complainant- and her son. The police recovered the car uncontrolled by the culprits on Monday morning. The Mangalamedu police have registered a case an against the unknown duo.
