AHMEDABAD: on Wednesday, Crime branch sleuths nabbed 2 persons, 35-year-old Dolat alias Gulshan Solanki, of Naroda and 28-year-old Punam alias Puniya Rathod, of Kubernagar, for stealing gold jewelry from a pedestrians in the city.
Crime branch sources said that they have recovered the jewelry and an autorickshaw valued Rs 72,400 from the accused.
during the interrogation 2 two accused revealed that they had cheated a lady after making her get into their auto as passenger and stole her gold jewelry.
Similarly, about 10-days ago they had cheated a male. “They showed him a bundle of currency and told him that they had found it and did not want to keep it. They offered him the bundle for just Rs 10,000, and it looked like it had more than 10,000. The man gave them 10,000 rs and bought the bundle which eventually turned out to be a bundle of papers with genuine notes on front and at back.
Inspector R S Suvera, said accused used to mainly target women.
“They would tell them that they had got some stolen jewelry or a bundle of notes. They would then trick the target into buying the jewelry or the bundle of notes.
“Ultimately, jewelry would turn out to be fake and bundle of notes would be just papers cut into size of currency notes.
Crime branch officials said that accused have criminal records. Punam was caught in the year 2016-17 by Shahibaug police and was also arrested by Kalol police about 15 years ago in a case of the theft.
