HYDERABAD: DRI sleuths stopped 3 passengers at RGI Airport when they were about to board a Mumbai-bound flight and recovered 1.2 kilograms gold valued Rs 48.50 lakh. These three, who were part of gold smuggling gang were held on Thursday. 4 elliptical-shaped balls, containing gold paste weighing 1.4 kilograms, wrapped in black adhesive tape were seized.
From 1.4 kilograms gold paste, officials extracted 1.2 kilograms. “The accused admitted that yellow metal was smuggled into country. They concealed gold paste inside their rectum. They picked up yellow metal from a gang member at the Mumbai airport and boarded Air India flight to the Hyderabad. The accused booked tickets on fake names and carried morphed Aadhaar cards to hoodwink the authorities,” official said.
