Thief who looted households in mourning, arrested


BENGALURU: A burglar who specialized in theft of valuables from households mourning their near and dear ones has landed in police keeping. Officials have recovered stolen valuables priced Rs 26 lakh from him. Muniraju C aged about 45, from Ramachandrapura near Sriramapura, worked as a supplier in hotel.

Nagabhushan Reddy, a landholder in Maragondanahalli village, near Hennur, had filed a case of theft with police. Nagabhushan alleged that a miscreant had stolen the precious gold and cash from his residence on 28 March, when his family was busy execution the final rites of his grandmother. The family members filed a complaint on 4 April.

The team verified CCTV footage from areas around Nagabhushan’s residence and zeroed in on a two-wheeler. Police traced the suspect in Ramachandrapura with the help of the vehicle’s registration number. They detained Muniraju on 12 April and recovered 850 grams of jewelry and a bike worth Rs 26.7 lakh from him.
