A 35-year-old software engineer has been arrested on charges of chain-snatching. The accused has been identified as Prabhakar of Parappana Agrahara and a native of Andhra Pradesh.
According to police, the techie, who suffered losses up to Rs 10 lakh after setting up a tech firm, tried to clear the loss by robbing only women on the roads.
During one recent such attempt, a police head officer, attached with the HSR station, rushed and nabbed Prabhakar red-handed.
The accused is said that to have committed around 25 chain snatchings in South East and South divisions, including HSR Layout, Koramangala, Madiwala, Jayanagar, JP Nagar and other nearby areas.
The techie has used the similar scooter in every theft and the police collect CCTV footage of the case along with the make of the bike.
Prabhakar mostly targeted elderly women walking alone on roads. The accused would cover his face with a helmet and had gone on a spree of snatching gold chains for the last few months.
Police said he would work during late-night. Based on CCTV camera footages, we kept checking on his scooter. During a routine searching, the accused tried to fled which increased the doubt of the police. when a senior officer chased him on a police patrolling bike and caught him.
The police said that the claims to have cleared some of the loan by selling gold ornaments he burgled. All gold chains will have to be recovered and further investigations are on.
