Coimbatore: Customs officials seized 52 rectangular pieces of gold from Unais, a passenger who came to Coimbatore International Airport in Air Arabia flight from Sharjah on Wednesday.
The officials stopped Unais based on intelligence and seized the gold hidden inside the transformers of two MP3 players/amplifiers. The seized gold weighed 2988.500 gm worth Rs. 96 lakh. The passenger has been arrested by officials.

In another case, some passengers arriving by Sri Lankan Airlines flight will smuggle the gold by way of concealment.
The officers of DRI stopped seven passengers – Mohamed Eliyas, Shahul Hameed, Musthafa Mydeen, Shahabuddin, Shahjahan, Prem Nazeer and Mohamed Abdulla and recovered from them 2040 gm of gold ornaments and valued at Rs 65.89 lakh. Further investigation is on.
