The department of commercial tax stopped a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) luxury bus travelling between Bengaluru and Vijayawada at 9 pm on Thursday near Hosakote toll and seized four bags of silver articles worth Rs 15 lakh without a passenger.
After checking, the team found that the tickets issued to the 45 passengers were in order. However, when started checking the luggage compartments and found four bags without luggage tags of KSRTC.
On investigation, the driver and conductor said the bags were without passenger luggage. The team then opened the four bags containing 699 silver items weighing about 40.95 kg with an estimated value of Rs 15 lakh.
The KSRTC authorities handed over silver lamps to the Department of commercial tax. The taxable articles without an E-way bill and tax invoice was an offence liable to tax and penalty.
No one has come forward to claim the ownership of the properties even after 3 hours. The department of commercial tax has since taken custody of the articles after physical verification of properties was done.
