VIJAYAWADA: On Monday, Nandigama police detained 3 members of a notorious robber gang afternoon and recovered 190 grams of gold made ornaments, 150 grams of shiny silver articles and 6,500 rs cash from them.
The police said 24-year-old Vibhudi Venkatesh and 2 juveniles were taken into custody while they were moving suspiciously near bus stand in Nandigama. When questioned, they three admitted to committing other offences and robberies.
Addicted to vices and to lead an expensive life, the three, who were the auto drivers, started committing minor crimes. Later, they became offenders and used to commit thefts on highways. Explaining their modus operandi, Nandigama police said that gang members would move in an auto-rickshaws in villages of Ibrahimpatnam mandal and its surrounding areas during the night and commit thefts. The gang members used to target females on finding them alone.
More than 20 cases have been listed against the thief gang in nine police stations in district. A special police team has been formed to nab 3 other members of thief gang, who are fugitive. The absconders are said to be the key members of gang.
