The police nabbed two women hailing from Chennai in Tamil Nadu on charges of snatching a gold chain from an old woman. The arrested women identified as Archana (34) and Latha (35).
According to the police, the two women had arrived in the city to bank on the temple festival season. The incident took place during the ‘Kaavadi’ procession held as part of the annual festival at Lord Subrahmaniya Temple at Panathura, near Ambalathara on Monday.
The two women joined the temple procession that was going from Ambalathara to Panathura and got familiar with Vijayamma, who was also joined the procession.They gained her trust before snatching the gold chain weighing 1.75 sovereigns. Vijayamma lodged a complaint against two women.
The police conducted an investigation based on the report of the women, Vijayamma gave them and police nabbed the women. More members of the gang could still be staying back in the city, police said.
