The police arrested four people for chain snatching from a moving train in Solapur on Monday.
The gang members have been identified as Kambar Mirza (30), Sadiq Khan (25), Jafar Shaikh, (27), all residents of Srirampur in Ahmednagar and Gulamali Sartaj Jafri (35), a resident of Ambivali, Kalyan in Thane district. Around a week ago, police had got a clue that a gang of chain snatchers was heading towards Mumbai from Solapur.
The city police rushed to Solapur where they learnt that the criminals were travelling to Mumbai.
During the investigation, The suspects told the police they used a car and a motorcycle to commit chain snatchings. While two of them would sit in the car parked outside the city, two others would use a motorcycle to snatch the jewellery. After the robberies, those on the bikes would come to the spot.
The police have recovered 210.48g of gold and a motorcycle. The seized items are totally worth Rs.6.69 lakh. The suspects had stolen the bike used for chain snatchings.
A case has been registered at Vitthalwadi police station.
