CHENNAI: An MBA holder turned into thief was detained four after he stole gold jewellery on Monday from his house owner’s residence in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar. The detained man, identified as Elamathi, 33, an inborn of Udankudi in Tuticorin.
The accused told the cops that he had finished MBA in 2006 from a university in Madurai. He said he had decided to steal the ornaments from his owner T Arivazhagan’s residence as he was struggling to meet expenses of his family. Elamathi sneaked into the residence when on Tuesday Arivazhagan walked out to buy goods at a nearby shop. As owner left the doors open, accused took benefit of it and stole the gold from the safe and go back to his house next door.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Elamathi had told his wife that he had stolen gold from the owner’s house. She asked him to return the gold to the safe. When he walked out to return the ornaments, he found that owner had returned home. Panic-stricken, accused placed the gold in a plastic box and gave it to his aunt Pushpa, 70, and said to her that he would gather it from her soon.
Police officials interrogated a few neighbours about the burglary, and found suspect to give them contradictory statements. Later, when he was being interrogated at the police station, he confesses having committed the crime.
Police arrested Elamathi and a police team recovered the gold jewellery from his aunt Pushpa.
