Andheri police arrested a man for fled with 1.2kgs of gold powder worth Rs 40lakh on Friday from a gold jewellery manufacturing unit built in Andheri East.
The police said that the accused Khatib Malik,(27), was a trusted worker of the complainant and worked for them for the past six years.
On October 13, Malik was asked to take the raw gold powder to another unit for a processing procedure when he fled with it. Khatib, who hails from West Bengal, could not be reached on his cell phone.
when he did not return to the unit, his employers checked with his colleagues who told them that they were not aware of his whereabouts. It was then that they learned that he had stolen the gold. Then, they registered a complaint against him with the Andheri Police.
An official said, the police started an investigation and using technical support and human sources network learned that Khatib was in Karnataka.
