TIRUPUR: The district police have arrested staff of a jewelry shop in Coimbatore on charges of buying the stolen gold from criminals.
3 people, who were involved in the house break-ins and the chain snatching cases had told police that they had sold the precious gold to shop. “Moolanur police had arrested 3 youths from southern districts for thefts. Accused, who are in early 20s, had also snatched the gold chains from women,” a police officer said. “Investigations revealed that trio had sold stolen gold in a jewellery shop on Big Bazaar Street in Coimbatore. Jeweller had bought more than 100 sovereigns of precious gold and diamond from the criminals.”
When police confronted him, jeweller gave contradictory answers, officer said.
Moolanur police held Dinesh, a staff of jewellery shop, on Friday. Further investigations are on.
Police suspect that shop could have buy gold from other criminals also.
Meanwhile, owner of jewellery shop C Hariom Gola petitioned superintendent of police seeking release of Dinesh. firm has not led any criminal activity, he said.
