Jewelry shop looted, two arrested


Phagwara – 4 armed robbers targeted a #jewelryshop in Panchhat village of Phagwara sub-division on Thursday, decamping with 40-gm yellow metal, 7-kg #silver and Rs3.5 lakh.They shot at the shop owner, Deepak Kalia, a resident of Phagwara, and his employee named Sukhpal of Panchhat village during a scuffle. After getting info, Kapurthala SSP Satinder Singh and SP Manpreet Dhillon reached spot. A dog squad and fingerprints experts were also called.

“The police have recognized robbers and two of them have been detained,” SSP said, adding robbers came in a Camry car bearing a fake registration number. It was later found that registration number was that of a motorcycle. “The car was stolen by 5 men in Hoshiarpur 2 months ago. The Thursday’s incident has no link with the similar case a day before,” the SSP said.

Kalia and his employee were taken to the Gandhi Hospital, Phagwara, but were later referred to the DMC, Ludhiana. Dr Satnam Singh Parmar said that Kalia sustained the bullet injury in his back, while mr. Sukhpal was injured in his chest. The police have the registered a case. Meanwhile, a delegation of jewelers met Phagwara SP Manwinder Singh and stated concern over rising incidents of loot.
