Police arrested a jewellery firm manager for allegedly pocketing gold ornaments worth Rs 1.28 crore after claiming that they were stolen when he was going to deliver them to a client.
Police said that after the arrest of Pankaj Kataria (37) and valuables worth Rs 1.15 crore were found in a locker of his alleged partner Paresh Sasmal and another aids Dilip Singh are escaping.
Pankaj was off to Madhya Pradesh to deliver gold to a client. He lodged a complaint at Itarasi station that his bag was torn and the valuables worth Rs 1.28 crore stolen. His employer, Mitesh Rathod, who has a gold manufacturing firm at Kalbadevi, rushed there.
On investigative the torn bag, refused to believe Kataria’s story. Later, he registered a case at LT Marg police station, naming Kataria as an accused. The police kept tabs on him and stated that before going on his journey, he met Paresh whose phone was switched off.
Pankaj was arrested and he confessed to his role with help from Paresh and Dilip. The police broke open Paresh’s safe and seized ornaments worth Rs 1.15 crore.
