BHUBANESWAR: The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs seized gold from a passenger, who arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here.
Officials of the Unit on doubt intercepted Dilip Singh of Uttar Pradesh, who had arrived at the BPIA from Bangkok by an Air Asia flight (FD-112) on Tuesday night.
During checking, a crude gold chain was found concealed below Singh’s T-shirt collar by the Customs sleuths.
The seized gold chain weighed for around 150.192 grams is worth Rs 5, 33,351.
After this the passenger was taken into custody for further questioning.
Further, 13.77 kilograms of gold have been seized in 2018-19 from Biju Patnaik International Airport making the city airport a hub for smuggling of the yellow metal.
Customs officials informed that seized gold valued Rs 4.46 crore while 7 passengers were also arrested in the connection.
