Gold worth Rs 50 to Rs 60 lakh stolen from train passenger

Tirupati: Gold valued at Rs 50 to Rs 60 lakh was stolen from a Mumbai jeweller, while he was travelling on Hari Priya Express from Mumbai to Tirupati on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, the incident happened when the train was travelling from Tirupati to Renigunta.

According to the Railway Police, J.T. Raj Purohit, a jeweller of Mumbai was in a sleeper section and was on his way from Mumbai to Kadapa.

Raj Purohit was given an authorization letter by a company titled J.P. Gold a Mumbai-based manufacturer and sellers of gold and silver ornaments.to carry 3617.026 gms of 18-carat gold ornaments.

According to the complaint, the train was moving towards Renigunta from Tirupati, Raj had gone to the toilet when he returned to his berth and found his bag was missing.

A case of stealing has been registered at the police station and further search is on.
