BHUBANESWAR: On Tuesday the intelligence wing of the customs department seized Rs 33 lakh worth of smuggled gold from a woman traveler at Biju Patnaik International Airport. The yellow metal was in the form of gold bars.
The passenger had just inwards from Delhi when the officials of intelligence were alerted by her ‘suspicious’ movements. “On searching her belongings, they found 9 pieces of gold bars and another 9 pieces of irregularly shaped gold. They weighed around 1 kilogram.
This is the 2nd case of gold smuggling coming to known this year. Gold operating cases started surfacing later the airport started direct international trips to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok and activated its customs cell.
