96 sovereigns of precious gold jewellery and cash were stolen in 3 different of house break-ins in the city and suburbs. While the sufferers in all the 3 incidents were ageing people, 1 of them was an engineer retired from PWD, from whose residence 64.5 sovereigns of jewellery was stolen.
According to Police said G. Shanmugam, 79-year-old, residing along Old Natham Road, was away from residence since Wednesday.
when he returns on Friday, he reportedly saw that somebody had gained entry into the residence by breaking a window on the rear side and escaped with 64.5 sovereigns of gold made jewellery and ₹ 40,000 in cash.
In another case reported in Koodal Pudur police, on Thursday night, 27.25 sovereigns of gold made jewellery was stolen from the residence of M. Gnanasekaran (70), residing in Angayarkanni Nagar. The stealing had occurred when he went out after leaving the residence locked for just a couple of hours.
The 3rd occurrence was reported in Anna Nagar in which the victim was S. Mohandas, (65) advocate. According to the police, the offenders had gained entry into the residence on Thursday night and stole 4 sovereigns of gold jewellery kept in a cupboard.
