Thieves have broken into two houses in the city and escaped with gold and silver ornaments worth lakh of rupees on Sunday.
In the first case, J Kannadasan, of RK Cotton Road at Iduvampalayam, when he along with his wife had gone to meet his father-in-law in Pollachi. Next day, when they returned home and found main door of the house was broken open and gold ornaments weighing 10 sovereigns were missing from the almirah, which was also broken open.
Kannadasan lodged a complaint at Veerapandi police. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
In another case, thieves struck at a house on College Road at Vanjipalayam, when the residents were at a nearby hospital. Police said that the house belonged to M Munir Basha. His mother had fallen ill and was hospitalized. Basha went to meet his mother and stayed back in the hospital on Sunday.
Next day, when he returned home and found front door was broke open and gold, silver ornaments weighing nearly 8 sovereigns were missing from the house, along with a camera and a watch.
Basha lodged a complaint with the Thirumuruganpoondi police station. The police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
