Gold seized at Coimbatore International Airport

Coimbatore – Officers of (DRI) Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 1,200 gram of yellow metal valued ₹39.84 lakh from a traveler who came to Coimbatore International Airport on March 23,2019 from Sharjah.

Based on the special information gathered by the local unit of the DRI, Jamshid of Kozhikode was recognized and interrupted by the officials at the airport as he came over the green channel.

The traveler’s baggage contained a coffee-making machine, in which the precious gold was hidden within the layers of the boiling cup. The traveler self-confessed that he was involved in smuggling of precious gold for a commission. He was detained and released on bail. Further investigation is on.
