Trichy: Thieves hit at a locked house in Woraiyur area in the city and fled with gold jewellery worth Rs 1.85 lakh on Tuesday night.
According to the police, the incident took place at the residence of A Murugesan, 52, at Srinivasa Nagar in Woraiyur. On May 29, he and his family members had gone to attend a temple festival at around 6 pm.
When he returned and found the main door of his house broken and 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery valued at Rs 1.5 lakh, Rs 25,000 cash and an LED TV worth Rs 10,000 missing from the house. The thieves had gained entry into the house by breaking open the door.
The police took up the investigation based on his complaint and visited the house.
In another case, On Wednesday, S Seeni Mohammed, 24, from Thennur in Trichy working in the studio was arrested by the police on charges of theft a camera and accessories from a photo studio run by one A Karthikeyan, 32, from Uyyakondan Thirumalai.
The police arrested one person for theft a camera worth Rs 5 lakh from a studio in Palakkarai recently.
According to a complaint, Karthikeyan had locked his studio on the night of March 17. He returned to the studio the next day and opened it and he found the camera, lens and flash missing.
The police registered a complaint and arrested the accused. The stolen things are yet to be recovered.
