Gold, cash stolen from widow woman’s house


Thieves broke into a widowed woman’s house and decamped with gold ornaments, weighing 50 sovereigns and 30,000 in cash near Kannankuruchi on Thursday.

Police said that the theft happened when Neelambal was away at her daughter’s home in Mangaluru. Neelambal’s husband P Govindarajan, a retired tahsildar, had died 6 year ago, due to some disease.

On Thursday, when the housemaid, Chittammal(63), came to clean the house of Neelambal. The maid found that the main door of the house was broken and household articles scattered on the floor.

Immediately, she informed Neelambal, who in turn alerted her son. On Thursday evening, Neelam’s son reached home and he found gold ornaments and 30,000 cash were stolen from the house.

He lodged a case with the Kannankuruchi police station. The total value of the stolen items at 15 lakhs, police said.
