Trichy: On Thursday, Unknown burglars decamped with yellow metals jewels weighing 70 sovereigns from a locked house in Perambalur district. The incident came to light after occupants found valuables missing upon returning residence.
Police identified the victim as Selvam, 54, of Eraiyur village in Perambalur district. Selvam is the headmaster of government-aided school in Eraiyur while his wife Ezhilarasi is teacher in same school.
On Thursday noon, couple after having lunch at their residence left for school. On returning residence in evening, duo found the front door broke open. On checking the steel almirahs in house, 70 sovereign gold jewellery and Rs 80,000 in cash were found missing.
A couple of mobile phones was also stolen from residence. Mangalamedu police have listed a case and are investigations are on to find culprits.
