Burrabazar: 25 gold worth around Rs 93 lakh, which officials suspect have been smuggled from Dubai, were detained from a person who had come from Tripura to sell them in Burrabazar on Wednesday.

The accused is arrested and identified as Bikash Bhowmick according to police the biscuit weighed around 116g. the gold biscuits had “Dubai-UAE” embossed on them. the accused during questioning told police that the gold biscuits have come from Bangladesh but as they have “Dubai-UAE” embossed on them police suspect a big racket that is active in multiple countries.
Acting on a special information, a team police of Burrabazar left for Agartala to be on Bhowmick’s trail. The team lodged the same train as the suspect – the Sealdah-bound Kanchenjunga Express on Tuesday.
On Wednesday evening The train reached Sealdah. The man landed from the train and walked towards Esplanade. biscuits were found concealed in his trousers – between 2 folds near the waist. police had info that Bhowmick had brought the gold biscuits to the city to sell it in Burrabaza.
months ago, the cops had intercepted a gold consignment value Rs 70 lakh and detained a person who was carrying it. The detectives zeroed in on Bhowmick after working on leads that arose during the probe in the 1st case.
