Gold biscuits valued at Rs 1.09 crore smuggled from Myanmar has been recovered from 2 train passengers at the Visakhapatnam railway station on Wednesday.
DRI officials said that they intercepted two men travelling on the Guwahati-Secunderabad Express at the railway station on January 4.
On inspection, DRI officials were found that the accused were carrying out gold hidden in specially made pouches inside the cotton vests worn by them.
The accused confessed that the gold was smuggled to India from Myanmar and someone handed it over to them for onward transfer to Secunderabad. A total of 3,314 gms of gold was seized from the passengers.
The duo and the mastermind involved in the smuggling of the gold were caught on Tuesday, DRI officials said.
