Chennai: On Wednesday, Coast Guard and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials recovered gold bars worth Rs 6.3 cr from the sea bed in Gulf of Mannar off the Tamil Nadu coast.

Team then approached fishing boat on Tuesday and on seeing them, the 2 fishermen dropped contraband covered in the cloth bags mid-sea, according to the sources said.
The fishermen were nabbed and their boat held at Mandapam near the Rameswaram on 3 March, a defense release said. A DRI official said team could not retrieve gold as it was late in sunset and did so on the Wednesday morning.
