Gold and Indian currency worth about Rs 50 lakh stolen from farmhouse


Hyderabad: Unknown suspects broke into farmhouse belonging to a US citizen and escaped with property valued at around Rs 50 lakh, including US dollars, even as the owners continued to sleep on Thursday night.

Rajya Lakshmi and Prasad Rao septuagenarians had returned from the United States and were living at their Haritha Farmhouse located in Dharmagi village in the outskirts of Shamshabad. Their kids lived in the USA and the couple also had settled there.

According to Airport officials, in the wee hours of Thursday when the couple was sleeping in another room. Some unknown persons gained entry into the house and escaped with gold and cash including US dollars.

The duo had fit an iron grill and locked it, but the grill was cut. They had kept the keys of the almirah outside it on a desk, using which the thieves opened the locks and flee away from the USD,  gold and Indian currency which together was worth about Rs 50 lakh.

The crime team reached the spot and collected some clues. A case of theft has been registered and the inquiry has been taken up.
