Mumbai: The police have arrested four persons for allegedly burgling ornaments worth Rs 1.33 crore after throwing chilli powder at the victim on Monday.
The police said that the victim works at the firm which collects handy gold and diamond ornaments from the manufacturing unit. On October 20, the incident took place at the gates of Mathuradas Mill compound on NM Joshi Road in central Mumbai’s Lower Parel area.
Four persons snatched a bag containing valuables worth around Rs. 1.33 crore after threw chilli powder into the eyes of a jewellery firm employee, police said. A cash was registered at NM Joshi Marg police station.
The thieves confirmed CCTV cameras footage in the locality did not manage to capture their images. Officials started an investigation about possible accused and zeroed in on Suresh Doke, (36), a resident of Kalachowki, who also works in a firm which is in the same line of business as that of the victim.
Suresh identified about the complainant’s gold ornament collection routine and planned the theft with three partners, Satish Sanap (26), Mahender Prakash Chowdhary (22) and Vilas Pawar, 25.
Valuables worth Rs. 1.15 crore had been recovered and the rest was disposed of by the suspects. The four were produced before a court which remanded them in the custody till November 19, police said.
