Vadodara: The detection of crime branch (DCB) has busted a gang of chain-snatchers and arrested 2 persons. Interestingly, one of the accused is a chemical engineer, who has studied in Gandhinagar and is working for a private firm. Police have detected 4 offences committed by the duo and expect to unearth more crimes done by them.
The anti-chain-snatching squad had received information that 2 suspicious persons were seen on a motorcycle on Chhani canal road on Wednesday.
We arrested them and seized 3 gold chains as well as 2 mobile phones from their possession,” said Jaydeep Singh Jadeja, DCP (crime).
One of the accused, Utsav Patel, is a 24-year-old resident of Ahmedabad who has done diploma in chemical engineering from Gandhinagar and went for further studies to Vidyanagar. After completing his studies, he began working in a private chemical firm and earns decent income. When cops asked him the reason behind committing the crime, Patel told them that he wanted to fund leisurely life of his girlfriend.
“Patel said he liked to spend money on playing games in gaming zone and on his girlfriend. So, he thought of committing chain-snatchings to earn some quick money,” Jadeja told TOI.
The police were amused as it was for first time that they had arrested, a well-educated and working man for snatching gold chains. The accused had begun committing the crime from January 1 this year and has snatched 4 chains till date; 2 in Ahmedabad, 1 in Nadiad and 1 in Vadodara.
He joined hands with another accused, 23-year-old Akash Panchal who stays in Anand. Panchal is unemployed and his father was arrested for buying stolen jewelry in the past. The duo used to target women at lonely spots.
