Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials (DRI) arrested a 38-year-old for smuggling gold bars worth nearly Rs 25 lakh were seized from a Sudan national on Saturday.

DRI officials said that Hafez Ahmed Ishag Musa(38) was arrested for attempted to smuggle gold bars hidden in the space for batteries in two mobile phones.

DRI sleuths intercepted Musa, who arrived at the airport here from Sharjah and recovered the yellow metal in the form of five tola bars of 24carat purity, total weighing 761.200 gms worth around Rs 25 lakh.

The passenger was arrested and later given conditional bail.
