Madurai: Gold and diamond jewelry valued Rs 30 lakh were stolen from a residence belonging to Karumuttu T Kannan, a businessman and an educationist from Madurai. Based on a police complaint from his wife Uma Kannan, a case was registered on Friday with the SS Colony police station and inquiry was ongoing with the house servants as they are suspected to be involved in theft.
According to the police, the house is located on Melakkal Main Road in Kochadai. police have booked the case under IPC section – 381 against 10 unnamed servants. Gold jewelry weighing 235 g and diamond weighing 30 carats were missing.
According to police, Uma Kannan joined a function in the month June and upon her return, she kept jewelry in a drawer of her room. Meanwhile, when wanted to wear jewelry for a function last week, she could not find jewelery. In her complaint, she stated that there are 10 servants working in residence and suspected that they could have stolen it.
A police source said that residence is secure with availability of security round clock. It is also covered under the CCTV cameras. There was no chance for outsiders to rob valuables from house, police added.
