Customs officials seized two kgs of gold worth Rs 63 lakhs from six women passengers at Anna International Airport on Sunday.
Customs Officials said that due to continuous vigil they have noticed several other incidents of smuggling of gold.
One lady passenger, Juvairiya Fathima Nachiar (42), arrived from Singapore by Air India flight and was stopped at the exit of the Anna International Airport arrival hall on doubt that she might have been carrying gold.
In personal search, officials seized two crude gold chains and 4 gold bars each weighing 100 gms, with foreign markings all of 24 Karat purity, totally weighing 689 gms and totally worth Rs 22 lakhs from her which were hidden in her rectum
Five women namely Seethamalani (53), Wimalawathi Kumarihami (47), and Sithy Rajeena (46), Pathima Parsana (29) and Kalyani Kumudulatha (46), all Sri Lankan passport holders arrived from Colombo by Sri Lankan airlines flight on the same day and were stopped at the exit of the airport arrival hall on doubt that they might have hidden gold on their person.
