In separated cases, customs officials arrested two men at Delhi airport for allegedly trying to smuggle gold worth around Rs 1.5 crore on Tuesday.
Customs officials stopped a 51-year-old Indian man after his arrival from Dubai via Muscat on Sunday.
During the checking, officials search his luggage and seized 19 pieces of gold bars, total weighing 2.1 kg. The market rate of the yellow metal, which has been recovered is Rs 67.57 lakh.
In another incident, officials intercepted an Indian man after his arrival from Muscat on September 1.
On his detailed personal and luggage search, 24 gold bars and one gold ring, total weighing 2.8 kgs were seized. The gold which has been recovered is assessed to be of Rs 85.29 lakh.
During the search, this passenger also known to having smuggled in 1 kg gold from abroad via Mumbai airport and 1.2 kg of gold through Ahmedabad airport in the past.
