The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized cigarettes, gold and saffron worth Rs 2.73 crore on Sunday. The parcel was stopped at the Airport Parcel Sorting Office (APSO).
According to the officials, the parcels were labelled Food Supplement and old cloth.
DRI officials checked packages that were imported. In the two consignments around one lakh cigarettes, 1.83 kg gold, 145 kg saffron, computer processor chips and medicines had been hidden. They were all being carried in illegally.
DRI officials said the consignments were addressed to people who had no idea about them. Officials believe that the names and addresses used were fake. It seems to be a big syndicate.
