A head constable chased down a speeding bike-borne criminal for about a kilometre near Bangalore University in west Bengaluru and nabbed him on Sunday night.
The accused is a 31, Achuth Kumar Gani, a resident of Kanminike in Kumbalagodu, The accused allegedly attacked a head constable in a bid to escape before he was brought to the police station. He was involved in more than 100 chain-snatching cases in and around the state, the police said.
A head constable named as Chandrashekar when found the accused who was on bike suspicious then he followed him, the accused speed up the bike, then constable slammed into his vehicle.
After falling accused attacked a constable to escape from the spot but the constable and his colleagues chased Kumar on foot (got shot in his leg) and caught him.
During enquiring, they learnt he was a notorious chain-snatcher and involved in two incidents reported on Sunday evening.
