Burglars broke open a branch of Punjab National Bank at Samayapuram in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu and escaped with cash and jewellery worth crores of rupees on Monday.
Police said that lockers of five different individuals were targeted in the burglary. Jewellery worth Rs 10 crore and some cash were stolen from five different lockers belonging to individual account holders. The police are now looking at CCTV camera footage to nab the miscreants.
The robbery came to light when bank officials opened the branch on Monday morning. The bank was closed on Saturday and Sunday was a holiday.
Trichy SP Zia-Ul-Haque has visited the spot. Police are investigating to find out when the robbery took place. Police have requested banks in Trichy district to increase security in wake of this incident. The bank officials are involved in estimating the value of stuffs in the locker. The police can reach at a final figure only after that exercise, police said.
