2 more women fall prey to chain snatchers in city

Coimbatore: On Tuesday, A 14-year-old boy was lodged at juvenile home at Lakshmi Mills here after he was caught for his participation in chain snatching on Monday.

Police said boy was part of a 3-member gang that snatched a gold made chain weighing 4 sovereigns from the 72-year-old R Govindammal, of North Housing Unit at the Selvapuram, on Monday afternoon.

The preliminary inquiry revealed that boy was class IX dropout. Other 2 offenders were recognized as 20-year-old Vinodh, of Lawley Road, and 20-year-old Balamurugan, of Ponnaiahrajapuram.

“The 3 were friends. Vinodh and Balamurugan asked boy to join their bike ride on Monday and they asked him to snatch chain of elderly woman. When he refused, Balamurugan snatched gold chain and they dropped boy in a nearby area. Public then caught him,” a police officer attached to the Selvapuram police station said quoting boy.
