Kapurthala: On Wednesday, The police arrested the son of a Punjab Police Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) along with three others for their alleged participation in seven cases of looting since the past three months.
Two motorcycles, a scooter, two gold earrings, pistols, sharp-edged weapons, drugs and narcotic pills were seized from their possession.
The police said, the arrested persons include Manpreet Singh, son of an ASI posted at Tarn Taran, Arshdeep, Sukhwinder Singh and Lakhwinder Singh, all residents of Kapurthala. Three more persons of the gang managed to flee.
The ASI’s son was a student and all arrested accused were drug addicts. Satinder said the seven-member gang was responsible for looting a wine shop at Muradpur town in Kapurthala, Rs 2.15 lakh from a shopkeeper in Kapurthala and Rs 94,000 from Sultanpur Lodhi. They had also made a failed attempt to loot a jewellery store in Kartarpur.
Two days ago, the police arrested accused Sukhdev Singh of Fattun Dhinga village who was responsible for over 25 snatching cases in the district.
