Police probing 5 incidents of gold and diamond stealing from a building in south Mumbai arrested a 28-year-old jeweller from New Delhi for buying the loot worth Rs 1.30 crore.
The accused identified as Fulo Mukhiya (26), was first nabbed in December for scaling down the terrace of a 14th-floor building to its 11th floor, gaining entry into a diamond merchant’s bedroom and theft diamonds valued at Rs 1.30 crore. He was nabbed with his brother, Lalu, and a helper, Santosh Mukhiya.
Police said that they sent a police team to Bihar to arrest the jeweller, Raju Mahantu, who had brought the stolen jewellery. the police team returned empty-handed as his store was closed and he had fled from Bihar. Raju had changed his SIM card and it was hard to trace him.
During the questioning, Fulo said that he admitted to having entered flats on the 13th, 22nd and 28th floors of Prithvi Apartment. Fulo used to monitor flats and if he got a suspicion that the owners were away, he entered using the building pipes, enter the flats and steal diamond ornaments and return to the ground floor.
The police said that the accused Fulo, who earned Rs 8,500 a month, had bought a plot in Darbhanga and built 6 houses. He has Rs 31 lakh in his 2 bank accounts.
