Mumbai – On Wednesday The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs seized 22 kgs of gold valued about Rs 6.74 crore cleverly hidden by a passenger in his clothes when he arrived from Dubai at the Mumbai International Airport.
Based on special information, a team of Air Intelligence Unit officials stopped a passenger, who has not been identified, in the area of arrival hall when was about to exit the airport. He had arrived from Dubai by Emirates EK 500 flight which reached at Mumbai airport at 2:15 am. In search of the passenger led to the recovery of 44 gold bars weighing 500 gram each. The yellow metal was hidden in special cavities stitched into his clothes. During his interrogation, he confesses to smuggling gold on several occasions in the past.
A Customs official team also carried out a follow-up search at the passenger’s house where they seized approximate Rs 1.51 crore in cash. During the questioning He confessed that the seized money was part of his commission from previous gold smugglings.
