CHENNAI: Customs officials seized 2 kilograms of yellow metal from 4 passengers, including 3 Sri Lankan nationals, who flew into the Chennai airport on Tuesday. A woman passenger, who hails from the Chennai, has also been detained.
According to a press release, 40-year-old, Jenitha, of Chennai, who arrived from the Dubai, was stopped. 4 plastic pouches containing yellow metal paste were recovered from her. On extraction, 525 grams of yellow metal valued at 34.97 lakh was recovered. She was detained.
In 3 other cases, officials intercepted 23-year-old Mohamed Akeel, 28-year-old Mohamed Arshad and 26-year-old Mohamed Afzal, all from Sri Lanka. 9 bundles (3 from each) containing yellow metal paste were recovered. On extraction, 1.292 kilogram of yellow metal valued at 56.21 lakhs were recovered and seized.
In total, 2.095 kilograms yellow metal valued at 91.18 lakhs was seized.
