MADURAI: As many as 16 made gold chains, weighing more than the 460 grams in total, which were snatched by a man from many women, were recovered following his capture by special team in Kanyakumari district on Thursday. According to Police said that accused 29, Shibu, of Thuckalay in Kanyakumari district snatched chains from females on the pretext of asking directions for some address.
Assistant superintendent of police, M Jawahar said that suspect was wanted in 17 chain snatching incidents in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts over last few months. The officer said that value of recovered jewelry is around Rs 12 lakh. police said that he rented a residence near Kanyakumari and worked from there.
He recognized women walking alone and followed them on pretext of asking for an address and snatched their gold chains. Following a series of such occurrences, a special team was shaped to nab the unknown accused.
Police said that he was caught during a vehicle check at the Mahadanapuram. He was lodged in prison.
